We are excited to announce the scholars in the 2022 cohort of the ANSA Fellowship Program. Profiles of these scholars are listed below alphabetically.
Ayisat Adedokun
Ayisat holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), where she graduated top of her graduating class. She was the first female President of the LAUTECH Student Union Council and plays football leisurely. Currently, she works as a graduate assistant at the Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja. Her long-term goal is to become an exceptional Secure System Engineer designing highly efficient products with built-in security.
Blessing Okwor
Blessing holds a bachelor's degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Nigeria Nsukka with a cumulative grade point average of 4.79/5.00, where she graduated as the best graduating student. Blessing is passionate about efficient healthcare systems and helping people adopt healthy lifestyles. Blessing currently volunteers in a health clinic where she handles and administers healthcare solutions to patients and nursing mothers especially during ante-natal visits.
Gabriel Uzoho
Gabriel is a first-generation graduate who holds a diploma and bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic Nekede and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike respectively with highest honors. Gabriel is an environmental enthusiast with interests in waste remediation and technology management.
Hassan Ajulo
Hassan holds a bachelor’s degree in Statistics from University of Ilorin, Nigeria and a MS degree in Mathematical Sciences from African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Rwanda. He is committed to improving healthcare delivery and alleviating health disparities through research. He aspires to pursue a PhD in Biostatistics and conduct data- driven research to improve the treatment and prevention of genetic and infectious diseases, as well as promote health equity.
Izuchukwu Iwuamadi
Izuchukwu holds a bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology from University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria. During his one-year mandatory National Service, he worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, University of Ibadan. He is now an MS candidate in Food Technology at the University of Ibadan. He plans to pursue a Ph.D with interests in exploring the impact of processing treatments on the functionality and physiological characteristics of food components.
Jesuloluwa Olunaike
Jesuloluwa works as an Executive Assistant at Polaris bank limited, after completing the Polaris Graduate Intensive Training Program at Polaris Business School. In the long run, she would like to further enhance her newly chosen career by pursuing an MBA degree in finance. “I know ANSA will play a big role in helping and guiding me to the peak of my career”.
John Whesu
John graduated with highest honors from the department of Sociology at the Lagos State University. He is passionate about volunteering, teaching, and research. His long-term research interests are focused on studying intergenerational wealth Inequality amongst socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. More specifically, exploring the roles of completed fertility. Furthermore, he hopes to take on future projects focused on assessing the fertility performance of low contraceptive populations.
Kehinde Adebowale
Kehinde holds a bachelor’s degree in plant science and biotechnology and an MS degree in plant physiology and biochemistry from Adekunle Ajasin University, and the University of Ibadan respectively. Been excited about giving back, Kehinde currently works as a self-employed graduate with an organization where young talented individuals are discovered across social media.
Maryam Adegbite-Badmus
Maryam obtained her bachelor’s degree from Osun State University, where she graduated with highest honors as the overall best graduating student. She is currently concluding her MS program in Microbiology at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Her research inclinations in Microbiology lies in molecular microbiology and microbial genetics of drug-resistant bacteria. She is confident that the support from the ANSA fellowship program would keep her space through her academic journey as a first-generation doctoral student, female researcher and a community developer towards promoting a better society.
Ogechi Amadi
Ogechi is a Sexual & Reproductive Health Rights Advocate and holds a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She actively advocates for improved reproductive health practices especially among women and girls in South-South Nigeria. She aspires to obtain a MS degree in Public Health, with a long-term goal of establishing a non-profit organization that will work to promote reproductive health in rural communities in Nigeria. Her research interests are adolescents' health, sexual & reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and rural health.
Onyekachukwu Obi
Onyekachukwu holds a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Ibadan and hopes to pursue a graduate degree in biological sciences. He is passionate about research in the fields of microbiology, immunology, cellular & molecular biology, biotechnology, and virology.
Oreoluwa Ojo
Oreoluwa Ojo is a Women Rights and Climate Action enthusiast. She is the Founder of Her Story, an organization that creates awareness about women rights issues and abuses through conversations in different communities across Nigeria. She is a First Class graduate of International Relations and Diplomacy from Bowen University, Nigeria. Oreoluwa is a skillful Writer, a Community Organizer, a trained Diplomat and a certified Project Manager. In her spare time, Oreoluwa can be found reading, having great conversations with friends or listening to music.
Saheed Kolawole
Saheed is passionate about promoting sustainable aquaculture and fisheries practices. As a bachelor’s degree holder in Aquaculture and Fisheries from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, he believes it is imperative to develop solutions to the ever-increasing seafood demand without depleting the world's fisheries or damaging marine ecosystems.
Tolulope Subair
Tolulope describes herself as “a rural community-bred lady passionate about helping community dwellers lead healthy lifestyles”. She is interested in learning global strategies to reduce the incidence of food insecurity through innovative and high-quality research, education, and community intervention programs.
Uzochi Onyeanwuna
Uzochi obtained his bachelor’s degree in Geosciences from the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria, earning the best graduating student award for exceptional academic performance, research, and leadership skills. His research interests are in the areas of atmospheric biogeochemistry, and carbon capture, and sequestration (CCS). He seeks to use his cutting-edge research skills in making contributions toward environmental sustainability and ecosystem conservation. Originally from Imo state, he draws his inspiration from his environment and is committed to creating a sustainable human environment in the rise of global climate change scenarios
Victor Johnson
Victor holds a bachelor's degree in Plant science and Biotechnology from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Nigeria. He also holds a MS degree in Pharmacognosy (Phytopharmacology specialty) from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Nigeria. Just recently, Victor was selected as a participant of the German-Africa Research summer school cohort on Drug Discovery Africa 2022. His research interests lie in harnessing naturally occurring products to tackle prevalent diseases such as cancer and antimicrobial resistance.
Victor Okoh
Victor holds a MS degree in biological sciences from the Federal University of Goiás, Goiãnia, Brazil. His research interests are in Neuropharmacology and Molecular Biochemistry. More specifically, he aims to develop drugs and therapeutics that can stop the progression of Neurodegenerative Disorders.
Vincent Idoko
Vincent holds a bachelor’s and MS degree in philosophy. He currently works as a lecturer and researcher in the field of Philosophy, with interests in the subfields of Philosophy of Medicine, AI Ethics, Metaphysics, and Education. He also volunteers on a pro bono basis in three NGOs dedicated to helping young Nigerians from economically disadvantaged homes secure quality education. “As I advance my studies (PhD), I hope to become a leader who will engender quality education and healthcare in the society, especially for those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds”
Winner Kubeyinje
Winner obtained her bachelor's degree with highest honors from the University of Benin, where she was the best graduating student in her faculty, earning her the dean's award for academic excellence. She has keen interests in microbiology and immunology and hopes to make a significant contribution to health care through high-quality research.
